The Citadel United Youth Academy Program
Description
Program Coordinator: Hani Rabi
Time Frame: January 12 to December 12, 2008
Program Description: The Citadel United Youth Academy was created to
serve the growing influx of low income, refugee and minority youth in the
city of Fort Wayne. For over 27 years the Citadel has provided over 3,000
youth with professional soccer training. With the changing needs of our
community our current board of directors: as well as our staff have committed
to reaching out to provide services for this underserved population. By creating
the Citadel United Youth Academy under the umbrella of the Fort Wayne United
Soccer Association, Inc. participants will be mentored by a staff that has
had a history of being successful in gearing our communities’ youth into
productive, rewarding lives. Participants in this program will be offered
free activities and services which include daily mentoring, exercise,
as well as instruction in healthy eating and living habits.
The mission of the Citadel United Youth Academy is to offer
low-income, refugee and minority youth with a structured and diverse after-school
mentoring program.
Objectives:
• To offer a new after-school mentoring program
that is aimed at improving the behavior and health of children 7 to 12 years
old.
• To enroll a minimum 75 low income, refugee and
minority youth into the Academy by March 30th, 2008
• To educate a minimum of 75 youth about daily
activities such as soccer as a means to maintain good health and a healthy
life style.
• To have at least one parent attend a weekly or
monthly session to review lessons being taught by mentors so that continued
support for their child’s efforts is emphasized at home.
