NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTSCongratulations '92 Girls for being honored with the G.I.R.L.S. league Fair Play Award, for Fall 2007! Two tough games this past weekend for Citadel 97G September 29 & 30 -- Saturday’s game against the Fever team began our challenging weekend. While many of the Citadel players knew Fever players and had developed friendship with them, their game toughness overcame the friendship. After the game, the friendships reappeared. Keeping track of the number of times the Citadel players kept the ball to their offence players and counting the number of times the ball almost entered the Fever’s scoring net became difficult. The Citadel team tried to score many times, but the luck fell on the Fever team. The game ended with Fever - 3 - Citadel - 0. Sunday’s game began strongly for both teams, the Citadel team and the Carmel team. Keeping track of the number of times each team was on defense or offence or even in the middle of the field proved to be equal. Shots made by both teams proved to be close; thus the first half ended Citadel - 0 - Carmel - 0. Something seems to happen during half-time at the majority of the Citadel 97G games. The parents wish they knew what is said to the players so they could possibly use the coaches’ vocal talents causing their daughters to listen to them as well as they listen to their coach. The Citadel team took over the field keeping the ball. They passed and kept the ball from being controlled by the Carmel team. The players worked together passing it down the field and supported each other to score. The game ended with a score of Citadel - 2 - Carmel - 0. “Great job,” should be said to the Citadel 97G team and coaches. A Challenging Weekend for Citadel 97G October 6 & 7 -- The Citadel 97G team started the challenging weekend playing Fishers, ranked second in their division, at Kreager Park on Saturday. The first half focused mainly on defense with the Citadel team blocking the Fisher’s team from scoring. The Citadel team succeeded with the half-time score Citadel - 0 - Fishers - 0. The second half showed the balance between the two teams. The shots at the net were closely the same. The officials called a few handballs on the Fisher team as well as a few off-sides. Citadel received one of each (off -sides and foul) through the entire game. As the second half came close to the end the Fishers scored. The Fisher team then “took the time away” from the Citadel team by kicking the ball off the side line lowering the time the Citadel team had to score. The game ended with Citadel - 0 - Fisher - 1. Sunday’s game in Zionsville began with even extra challenges. Confusion in communication with the coaches, accidental forgetting of soccer shoes, confusion on time of game, as well as the traffic challenge from the Colts game held us back while playing the team ranked number one in our division. But positiveness toward the team was shown in the support of the Citadel’s substitute coaches - deserving a gift - and the positive cheers from the crowd. The Zionsville team held the ball shooting the ball many times at the net. The Citadel goalie kept the ball from entering the net many times. The official held respect from the parents for asking a Zionsville player to “Watch your pushing” but the official lost the respect twice. The first was a shot in the net during the first half with off-sides not being called. It happened again, during the second half, with the ball remaining with Zionsville even though the official should have called “off-side.” The Zionsville received a corner kick and it must be admitted, it was one of the most beautiful scoring shots. The final score was Citadel - 0 - Zionsville - 4. The future success of the Citadel 97G team is strong. They have worked on the strengths they have as a team as well as individually. Even though a game may be lost what is achieved is the strength each player earns. STAFF
